Interesting quote, Hundreds of people attended the wedding in the town of Guriceel in central Somalia. “Today God helped me realize my dream,” Dore said, according to sources. Maybe because he will probably be meeting God soon.

The bride, Safia Abdulleh, did not comment, but her family said she was “happy with her new husband”
on a personal note ;if I was a happy woman I would not need my family members to tell others for me, I would be jumping with joy.
I do understand that this is a tradition in another Nation so best wishes in life to this young girl, with a husband of 112 yrs in age I don't think it will be a long marriage, hopefully it will give her a long more comfortable life ,but as she is wife number five and so many children to share heritages, whats left. Doesn't seem like a wise plan for life for her or her children she hasn't had yet. I sum this up as a tradition of legal raping of youth dreams. Some Nations need to face the realities of living life today in this time and era.

I agree with Star Smiles about the length of this marriage.

That is a major issue that is at the heart of this.
My next sentiment (actually my first once I stopped gagging...)
Eeeewwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This sound denotes great disgust. Disgust for a 17-year-old girl who , in her own phlosophy, may find it safer and tressless to pursue happiness by marrying a 112-year-old man that will any time now make her window and probably a rich one with wealth that she could never have earned in her life. Whether it is by love, interest, or force, a widow, by divine law, is more eligible to remarry than many other divorcees whose marriage was dissolved due to infidelity. It is true that the man is way too old for her, but. hey! freedom of choice. This is why I give women credit for being more mature than men. I feel that there is no way a 112-year-old woman would allow a 17-year-old boy to come molest her. But After all it's still a marriage between a man a woman. If we care to look deeper into the society, we may notice other marriage that could make us emit a bigger and longer sound of Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww! But hey! freedom of choice. The world is what it is.

True, Truth. LOL
The talk of a 112 year old phallus is still grossing me out. Probably because that would someone of age of a great-great grandparent. I read the other posts (particularly about the little blue pills), and I got that thought stuck in my head.
My only issue with the freedom of choice in this would be: Was it actually her choice?
There are plenty of marriages that I have noticed that really should embarrass the people who "nurture" them. They are nothing but a manipulative disharmony for those certain ones.
I am extremely pleased that my marriage is nothing like that despite its perceivably less than stellar start.

well it is a third world muslim country at 12 little girls are considered adults and eligible to be married into any harem by the family it really wasn't much her choice it was more her family's choice whether they want status or the dowry

Dear Lissa I agree with your viewpoint. It is obvious that love is not at the foundation of this marriage, but rather interest. And it is also assumable that the poor girl may have been forced into it. But even then, interest still remains the motive. In a logical way, one can say that Nicole Smith, and not only her, was forced into her marriage to the very old man, but not by her parents, rather by her ambition and greed to inherit the old man's wealth. She had to bypass social critics to achieve financial happiness. The problem with these marriages is that the younger spouses may find it hard to remain faithful especially when they have an itching sexual desire that their older spouse cannot scrahed. In any case, it's a sacrifice they have to make for the better. You see, a certain culture we may condamn in one nation because it is mandatory that seems to violate people's freedom of choice, is at the same time active in other nation in an optional state and does not violate any law. It is sad but it's true. It's not only parents, but as well certains circumstances or emergencies, poverty, fame and money greed that force people into marriages out of lovelock. But it is also to consider that the 112-year-old man may not even be interested in engaging in any sexual activity with the young girl, but just marry her in his generosity to legally make her heir of his wealth if he has any. And if wealth is indeed involved here, the girl propbably, willingly consented to it in order to change the miserable life she and her family are fighting; a sacrifice she has chosen to make and an opportunity she has grabbed out of compassion for her family. If this is the case, wouldn't that be a laudable act? And besides, very soon the man may die, and she may go back to her normal life. For I know today, barely 50% of marriages are founded on love. This is why I'm not always in a rush to judge even when there are obvious evidences, because there are also acceptable logical covert factors that lead to certain events that cannot be dismissed. One just needs to keep a vigilant observative eye to come to understand and forgive certain actions that seem inappropriate. That is my philosophy. It's not imposed as best.

and hopes to have children with his new bride.
This was above, but I do understand what you are saying. It is sad, but I do hope that she can find something in this situation that will bring her the happiness that should be attainable.
I do know how some of this works, but the culture of most European countries holds my interest because that is where I am most interested in travelling and have visited or lived in certain areas.
Please do not misunderstand, I am not really condemning anybody. This is a decision that involves this girl, her family and this man.
(The one thing I am not thrilled with is the thought of a 112 yr old "willie" being discussed. LOL I haven't been able to get it out of my poor brain.)

This reminds me of something George Burns said about making love after age 90 is like trying to shoot pool with a rope.....
Anyone taking bets on whether a consumation took place or not?

"Waited for her to grow up" - and now she's 17? That's not very grown up to me. He just sounds like a dirty old man to me.
And I agree with the earlier person - if she is so happy, why isn't she saying so herself?

That poor girl is probably miserable. Hence the reason she hasn't said anything. :( This is disgusting.

I doubt the daughter had any say in getting married. In many of these cultures daughters are usless to a family. Men own property, money and make all the decisions concerning the family.Women make babies, cook, clean and thats about it.They will push their girls to marry someone of higher social class and wealth so the daughters family will benefit. If a poor family has a girl born to them she may be left outside to die because she is of no use to them and is another mouth to feed and clothe. At least she will probably be a very young widow, and her family will have gotten some use out of her.

Whew!!!! What a disgusting picture, poor kid. On the other hand, it could be worse, she could have married a 60 something, half the age of this ancient one. At that earlier age, he, may have the energy to pester her for sex, but with the older one, I doubt there is any chance of that. Also many of these men savagely beat their wives, in this case, I bet she could whup his ass with one hand tied behind her back, heheh.

finally some good news from Somalia, and what a wonderful place it must be.
hope he has lots of life insurance and property for her to inherit next week.

To each his own. I can't possibly comprehend all the intricasies of that culture over there. So maybe it's "not her place" to speak for her own happiness? I dunno. I try to not always use our American ways of thinking when dealing with other countries.... even though ours is clearly better lol

Darn, I know they do things differently over there and women have much different roles. But still. That just seems wrong.
And thanks to all above who were commenting on 112 year old penises and little blue pills. I need to scrub my brain with bleach now so I can remove that awful image. :)
